Cockatiles

Question
We had a cockatile for about 4 mo. and it died suddenly. The pet store told us not to burn candles, use a gas stove, or cook with a certain kind of pan. We got my little girl another cockatile and have been very careful not to do any of these things. Is it true that we should not burn candles or use certain types of pans?
