Question
my daughter moved to col. last year leaving her cat. she now wants to drive back and retrieve her cat (we live in in.).thecat is13 yrs old. what if any precautions should be looked at if any (about 16 hr dr.) thanks for any advice G.b.

Answer
Hi Gene!  This would make a very stressful trip for a cat...not only the long drive, but a new home as well, especially at the cat's age!  Putting the cat in a dog carrier would be best,as it would have more room.  Also be sure that the cat has plenty of food and water during the trip, along with a small litter box. The cat may not use the litterbox during the trip, but having it available if needed, would definately relieve some stress.  Be sure not to leave the cat unattended in the car, as even a few minutes in a hot car can cause death.  Be sure also, that the air conditioning is on in the car.
I hope this is helpful and best of luck,
Hilary
