Cat - difficulty swallowing

Question
Male Cat:  Part Maine Coon.  After eating a few bites or drinking some water he will have difficulty swallowing.  Arches head, neck various positions to clear his throat all the while noises are coming from his throat area.  Sounds like he has drainage or mucus in his throat.  After throat is clear he will continue to eat or drink.  Hasn't lost any weight.  On occasion I have forced his mouth wide open & after a few movements by him, he is fine.  This has been happening for approx. 3 years.  The Vet has checked his nose for polyps and an upper g.i. has been performed with no problems found.  The next suggestion was to take him to A&M Vet School to have them do a test on him while he is eating.  I haven't done this though.  I have tried antihistamines and no change.  Have you heard of this condition before & if so what was the remedy?  Thanks!

Answer
This is beyond anything I can answer for you Matilda. I would suggest you re-post this to one of the other vets in here. These three vets can best answer this for you. If not, then at least call the veterinary teaching school and ask the same question.
