my rat had orange mites

I have a white rat named JoJo.  He is about 1 1/2 yrs old.  He has had an on going problem with some sort of orange mites on his body.  It is now making his skin very oily.  Latley some spote are looking sore. I have try flea and tick spray but nothing has worked.  I keep there home clean and he gets a bath about every two weeks. Please tell me how to help my little friend.  Any idea of what this could be and how to treat it?

Hi Kristen! JoJo has exactly what you said, mites.  You will need to get mite spray.  Flea and tick spray will not help this.  Mite spray can be found at your local pet store.  If this does not work, you may need to have your veterinarian take a look at him, and prescribe antibiotics and prescription mite spray to heal this.
