injured animal

Question
hi

i found a small rodent on the sidewalk, i couldn't find any visible injuries but it just laid there panting... it let me nudge it into a bag and i took it home, i've been trying to give it water with a teaspoon and have left little scraps of food in the box... when i first brought it home it barely moved, i only knew it was alive because it kept breathing, now (almost two days later) it tries to get up and move around... i have to guess it has a head injury because it can't walk upright, it seems very dizzy and does more rolling than walking.  i am asking you because i feel so bad watching it, i'm torn between putting it out of its misery or having hope that since its improving theres a chance it will recover... i was hoping your expertise could answer whether an animal can recover from a head injury or whether it's only suffering longer...

i really appreciate your time, thank you
holly

Answer
Hi Holly!

I think that it is wonderful that you cared enough to take this injured little guy home to help.I wish that I could say he will be alright, but it is really hard to say without examining him.His injuries could be anything from broken limbs, internal damage or serious head trauma. If you really wish to help this lil critter you must get him the proper medical attention imediately!Look in your phone book for any nearby wildlife rescue services, they are usually great and they will take him and give him the proper care he needs until they know that he is able to be on his own once again.

I hope this has been helpful and I wish you the best of luck! Please keep me posted and give that lil critter millions of kisses for me!
