Cat, sudden death

Question
I just came home from work this past Friday to find my 5 year old cat dead.  She seemed healthy and was acting fairly normal when I left for work that morning... the only difference in behavior was that she had been walking around the house meowing very loudly the night before.  Normally she only did this when she needed food or water, which she had both.  She also seemed more lathargic that morning, staying in bed when she normally would have been up running around until I left for work.  We found her laying on the couch, head buried under a light pillow.  I searched the house, but didnt find any vomit or anything else unusual.  She had never had problems that I know of before, but we got her from a shelter 3 years ago, so I dont know her medical history before then.  In the past year, she had started peeing in several different rooms of the house, but other than that, her behavior was normal.  My daughter and I are crushed, and I am feeling very guilty for not being there when she died or knowing that something was wrong.  Any information you could give on what may have caused this would be great in helping me to get some closure on her death.

Answer
Hello Melissa, I am sorry for the loss of your cat.  It sounds very odd that she did not have weeks of problems prior to her death.  I am wondering if she had a blood clot of some kind.  Doesn't sound like she suffered at all.  So, it was quick and she may have just fell asleep.  Blood clot is a good guess.

Sorry
