small white bumps on skin

Question
Hi,

I recently adopted a six-month-old Dachshund from the SPCA where he was fed Science Diet. A couple of days ago my puppy was neutered so I waited after that to change his food. So 3 days ago I switched to Acana for puppy and junior(mixed with Science Diet) and since then he has started getting small bumps on the skin(near the eye, muzzle, back, hind legs). They appear to be white, Ive also noticed tiny patches of hair loss, about 10-15 pieces of hair. His skin is also pretty itchy.

I was wondering if it could be an allergic reaction to the new food or something to do with the operation or a combination of both.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
It's the food. You took him from the best food on the market to some unknown brand of unknown quality and nutrition. Get rid of the new food and keep him on Science Diet puppy growth and you will have a healthy, shiny dog that will live a long and healthy life.

Having sold and fed SD myself for 29 years and recommending it to over a thousand clients I have never seen a dog that lives on SD be as sick as my friends dog's that are raised and live on other questionable diets. One friend's dogs all have died of cancer and they lived on Avoderm. My pets live to be way past the normal age of their breeds and have died of old age instead of cancers. That is all the proof I need, but if you need more- I have plenty for you.

Now having said that, the neutering would not have anything to do with the itching, the lumps or the hair loss.

Get him back on the Science Diet and you should see some improvement in about a week or less.
Let me know how he does.
