Wet spots below ears

Question
I have a one year old yellow lab, he has a wet spot on the side of his head just below his ears and behind his jaw on both sides of his head. It has a small odor to it. What could it be I have never seen it before on other dogs that I have owned.

Answer
Sounds like your dog is getting a hot spot. These are common in labs. They tend to smell, get wet and raw and can spread over a large area if not treated.

The vet will clip the hair from it, clean it and cover it with an antibiotic ointment. So you need to get him to the vets on Monday. You can scrub it gently with some warm water and a cotton ball, then put some cortisone cream on it until the vet can see him.
