Mental Disorders

Is it possible for cats to develop mental disorders, such as schizophrenia? Twice in the last week, my cat has been fine and then all of a sudden looks wide eyed at nothing and backs up and out of the room. He then backs all the way down the stairs and begins looking around corners. He has never done anything like this before these two times.

He is probably hearing something outside that is spooking him...their sense of hearing is MUCH more acute than ours.

You may want to add RESCUE REMEDY into his water dish as well as purchase FELIWAY/COMFORT ZONE to help reduce any underlying anxiety.

I would not label him as schizophrenic.

If the odd behaviors continue, take him to the vet for a check up and some blood tests.
