Question
I have brought my 5 year old black lab mix to the Vet numerous times for allergy/dry skin issues, and have a cabinet full of medications. He, my dog, gets a Cortisone shot every once in a while, but little seems to help. His food had been changed, blood work done, he still scratches endlessly. Are there any home remedies such as oils(canole, olive, eucalyptus, etc.) that put directly into his coat could alleviate the frustration(his and mine!)? Any help is very much appreciated! Thank you.

Answer
The oils that show the best response to itching are the Omega3 fatty acids, which are also called cold marine fish oils. There is a new product called Eicosaderm from Dermapet that is very flavorful and it works well.  It may take a month for you to see any oil having an effect on the skin.  (www.dermapet.com)
