Question
I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD MALE MINI AUSTRALIAN DOG. HE WEIGHT IS ABOUT 30 TO 35 POUNDS . I GOT HIM ABOUT 8 MO AGO HE WAS VERY ABUSED SO TO TAKE HIM TO A VET IS VERY SCARY FOR HIM. OK HE IS CHEWING AT HIM SELF SO BAD THAT HE TAKE ALL OF HIS HAIR AND CHEWS IT OFF AND THEN HE MAKES HIM SELF BLEED. AND IT IS REALLY BAD. I HAVE A CONE ON HIS HEAD I CHANGED HIS FOOD TO WERE HE NO LONGER HAS A FEVER AND SKIN NOT ALL RED AND HOT BUT HE REALLY NEEDS HELP BECAUSE HE STILL FINDS WAYS TO EAT HIM SELF ALIVE SO WHAT CAN I DO FOR HIM?

Answer
He may have skin allergies or some type of skin parasite.  Because he is traumatizing his skin so bad, it would not be unusual for him to also have a bacterial skin infection.  I would ask the vet to treat the dog for skin parasites with an insecticidal dipping to kill sarcoptic mites, which are microscopic.  I would also get the dog on steroids to decrease the intense itching.  IF there is an infection, then he would also need antibiotics.
