Ringworm: And its treatment

Question
Ringworm: Had the scraping waiting for results.  After the bath decided it most likely is. If no other obvious reasons, how did my dog get it?  Is the antibiotic she was prescribed"just in case" possibly detrimental to ringworm treatment? What are the best OTC's to use because this  prescribed shampoo 2X a week will cost a fortune.

Answer
Anibiotics don't make ringworm worse.  Ringworm comes from other animals or from the soil.  You can use lotrimin (clotrimazole) or micatin (miconazole) on the spots.  The problem is that the spores can spread if you just treat a small area.  The shampoos are very powerful and can treat the entire dog, not just the spots.
