two weeks ago i adopted an 8 month old male cat already neutered w/all shots brought home cat had cold-like symptoms exactly one week later brought to vet;  vet said upper respiratory cold which is usually the case for cats from a shelter prescribed clavamox antibiotic 2 pills a day for seven days which brings us to today one pill to go cat has had bloody nose for about 2 days he had a stuffy nose ever since we got him; is this common... any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Traci!  You will definately need to take your little guy back to the veterinarian.  A bloody nose is not common and will need treatment.  This is due to the severity of the infection causing broken capilaries in the nasal cavity.  A more heavy duty antibiotic is definatley in need, and Baytril will definately be the antibiotic of choice.  The clavamox is not strong enough to kill very bad infections...it's more for a slight infection.  Any time an illness is present and antibiotics are prescribed, you should see a definate improvement after day 3 on the medication.  If you do not see improvement by the third day, a stronger antibiotic is definately in need.
Baytril should knock this infection right out.
I hope this answers your question and please let me know how he does.
Give him kisses for me,
Hilary
