Help! I am allergic to cats

I am mildy to moderately allergic to cats.  I was told by a friend that there is some kind of additive I could add to the cat's water to reduce the dander and proteins in the cat's saliva.  I would like to get a cat but I would need to have something to help reduce the allergens first.  Can you help?

I am not aware of a product that is added to water.  Wiping the cat down with a damp paper towel on a daily basis will help remove some of their saliva as well as daily vacuuming and having an air filter in the house.

Feeding a good quality, all-natural diet will also keep hair coat in better condition and help reduce shedding.  I feed my cat's Prairie www.naturesvariety.com and they do very well on that.

Often times fatty acids are marketed as an aid in reduction of shedding, but I do not know of anything to make the cat less allergic.
