when to vaccinate a nursing momcat

Question
I plan to take a momcat and her litter of kittens into foster care.  The kittens are less than 2 weeks old but probably at least a week.  The momcat is a "trailer park cat" so I'm reasonably sure that she has never had any vaccinations.   Once I bring the cat and kittens to my house, how soon can the momcat be given a distemper vaccination?   Thanks!

Answer
It is safe for you to vaccinate the mom but that doesn't offer any protection for the babies. You should make sure she is free of leukemia, FIV &  FIP before you vaccinate her also. If she was already tested for those and is negative then get her vaccinated.

The kittens can be vaccinated at 6-7 weeks. I think they handle it better at 7 weeks but keep them isolated (don't let them outside) until the vaccinations start to work in about a week.
