Mysterious bump on puppy

Question
Hi Jana,
I have a 7-month old female pit bull mix who recently developed a small bump on her thigh.  It happened the day after I applied Advantix Flea and Tick medicine, so I'm thinking it might be connected to that.  She's otherwise very healthy, and we feed her California Natural Lamb and Rice Meal Formula, Puppy.  The bump has been there now for about two weeks, seems to be getting bigger...it somewhat resembles a wart.  On the bump, the skin is red and it has a scab in the middle,  it's raised up and hard, and it's about thumbnail size.  It seems to be irritating her and she licks at it.
Do you have any suggestions about what it might be or anything we should do about the bump or put on it?
Thanks so much,
Laurel

Answer
Well I really doubt if it's connected at all the flea and tick medicine.
Dogs get warts, skin tags, lick granulomas, all kinds of things. She might have been licking it all along and her constant licking is now causing this to grow and get redder. It sounds like an acral lick granuloma. It's an odd place for one so what you really need to do is have the vet look at it and remove it before it gets huge.

There is nothing really that I can tell you other than that. It is really a hands on and see type of problem.
Sorry! If you do find out what it was let me know.
