Parakeet

Question
I just purchased a new parakeet.  They told me he is only a few months old.  He is always scratching all the food out of the dish and laying in the dish.  I refill the dish and he jumps in and looks like a grouse dusting itself.  He does this until the dish is empty then he lays in the dish.  When I uncover him in the morning he is on a perch. Should I get a nest and put it in the cage?  Why does he do this?

I don't know Ray. My profile says I don't do birds like these because I don't know much about them. I am guessing that he does it because he is young and that is the kind of dish they had for him before to take baths in.

Ask the breeder you got him from if he did this at their place. Get one of those semi-covered dishes that he can't get his body into. That is the only thing I can suggest.
