Question
Dear Doctor,
My dog has been sick for the past couple of days. Symptoms have been vomiting and lethargy. We took him to the vet and they ran X-rays and GI Test. Both did not show anything. At the vet they had him on a IV to keep him form being dehydrated and he seemed to be recovering but within the past day he as regressed. Could this be a virus? How do I keep him hydrated?
Thanks!

Answer
By forcing him to drink either Gatorade or Pedialyte. That is the only thing you can do. Give him 1/4 to 1/2 cup every half hour according to his size.
He didn't give you any kind of diagnosis?
Does he have diarrhea? Has he been vaccinated in the last year?
Is he a garbage eater? Did he send home antibiotics?
the reason I ask all of this is because dog's are notorious for getting into the garbage either in your house or outside and they can have what we call garbage intoxication.
Symptons are vomiting, lethargy and usually some diarrhea. He could also have gastroenteritis, or pancreatitis, both which involve vomiting and pain. Dogs in pain don't move around much. Is his vomit bile colored or white?

If your dog isn't showing signs of improvement I would call the vet.
This can be very serious.
I hope he recovers soon. Please let me know what you find out and how he does.
