Question
my dog is a male beagle, 7 years old and has shown aggressive behavior throughout the years it seems to be getting worse as he gets older. Will neutering him at this stage help at all? We have taken him to classes and even has someone come to the house to try to help nothing is working. We dont want to get rid of him.

Answer
Neutering him is a good start- but a thorough exam is in order first before that. Any kind of age related aggression is a cause for concern. Cognitive function might be compromised and things are perceived differently by the dog- causing fear and thus aggression.

A good work up is always the first thing that should be done and then based on that, schedule the surgery.

There are many drugs on market now that can help this dog. A behaviorist for dogs can also be consulted. There are many avenues you can explore to get him help so don't worry about getting rid of him unless all else fails.
Then you can discuss that with your vet.
