Question
My dog hit her hear on the floor while jumping and falling backwards ,she could not get up and seemed like she knew where she was but couldn't get up although she was trying, she was aware I was holding her and it was about 15 mins (I think) then she started to come around and was normal again,I'm concerned this was a concussion ,it has happened before,I don't think it has anything to do with a seizeure as it only happened when she did hit her head playing, and I have had dogs before that did have seizures and the systoms are quite different and the causes,is there something I can do for her besides keeping her warm till she comes around?

Answer
In the event of her hitting her head such as this primarily keep her confined to prevent any further harm and observe her to make sure that her symptoms resolve.  If her pupils are unequal in size then it is likely that she does have a concussion and may need medical intervention if bad enough to cause very high intracranial pressure.  If her symptoms do not resolve within an hour or the incident I would recommend having her seen by your veterinarian.

Apologies for this delayed response.  I was unexpectedly unavailable due to a family emergency.
