Question
Dear Tina,
I have a 7 year old chow who hasn't been eating for 4 days. I give him bones that are
for his teeth, since the last one 5 days ago,he hasn't eaten. He is still drinking water and he
stillwill eat a dog treat once in a while.
He's had all his immunizations and he has always been a super healthy dog,he also is standing alot
and he just doesn't seem to be his self,I have lost my job and until my unemployment comes<i am strapped for a vet call. If you think there is no way around this I will have to find a way,he has always been my best friend but since my husband's death,I dont know what Id do without him.
Thank-you so much for your advice,it means so much to me and Rocko.

Answer
Hi Alice,
4 days is a long time. One thing is not to feed him anymore bones. I know we used to do it all the time in the old days, now a days vets. have found that bones can puncture the dogs intestines, bones can cause them to be constipated, and bones can actually break and wear down the teeth. I don't know why he is not eating. It's possible it is from the bones. You can give him some canned pumpkin. If he is constipated this will help him pass stools and hopefully he will start to feel better. Oh... and make sure he is drinking enough water. Take care and take him to the vets. if he doesn't eat over the weekend.
