Infection?

Question
Hello,

My bull terrier had a small dot (size of a blackhead) on his stomach and I thought it was dirt and just scratched it off. A little spec of blood came out. Days later it grew bigger (about a 1/2 size pea) and it looks like a mole. The mole-like pea is hard. Did I get it infected by picking on it? Do you know what it could be? Should I bring him to the vet if it continues to grow or just wait and try to clean it with peroxide to see if it will go away on it's own? Please advise. Thanks!

Answer
If it was a small mole that you removed, it likely bled and the blood could have easily build up into a small hematoma, a sort of blood blister if you would.  Keep an eye on it and gently clean it.  It likely is not infected but watch it for any sign of pus-like material.

Dogs can very often get small moles or skin tags which are not problematic, but if you find that it grows, bleeds or bothers him I would suggest taking him to your veterinarian to have it examined.
