Answer
When dogs lick long enough the iron in their saliva makes the hair reddish brown. The question is, why is she licking? How old she is could have something to do with it. older dogs tend to get some arthritis in their feet, legs, and joints and pain will make them lick.

Any prolonged licking should be investigated by the vet as a result so that if she is in pain that can be eliminated or helped.
