Mouse Decomposition

Question
When some humane traps failed to completely take care of our mouse problem, I, unfortunately, had to resort to some DCon.  Unfortunately, a mouse of unknown size made a nest in the insulation around my cook stove oven, and died.  A technician was unable to get the mouse.  How long at around 70 degrees F. would it take for the mouse to decompose and the odor leave the house?  It has been smelling around 1 week now.  How long should we wait to use the oven?  Thanks.

Answer
Wow mice can sure be a pain can't they? We had one die in the wall of the vet hospital right by the bathroom- the one the public used! So they of course thought someone before them had...well you get my drift!

It is a gross mess. You probably got a mother and her litter of 10-13 babies. It's going to take around 4 months or more for the smell to go away entirely. After a month or two it won't be so strong.

Once you start to use the stove you may smell something now and then.
It isn't a lost cause but you will be remembering the mouse now and then for a while to come- possibly until summer is over. I am guessing you live in the Southern hemisphere? It took our bathroom wall a good 6-8 months to stop smelling completely, but that was sealed off. A spot that gets some air won't take as long.

All you can do is wait it out and air out the area every day.
I am sorry!
