Question
I have a dog in foster care that was rescued along with her pups out of the woods. She has been in foster care for 10 days. She has no hair at all, is being dipped, wormed. She has a good appetite but is literally skin and bones. She is still nursing. I know that there are many diseases and problems that could cause this and will take her to the vet when the pups are gone. I am sure that she does/did have every worm type. Does it take  a while before the worms die and food absorption begins? I know that her immune system is impaired with the mange. The poor thing looks awful. Should I expect to see weight gain  any time soon if the loss was caused by worms.

Answer
I would feed her PUPPY FOOD, free choice.  Make sure she is eating at least four times a day.  You can also supplement with cottage cheese, boiled burger and chicken, scrambled eggs and total cereal to get some weight on her.

I would recommend taking a stool sample to the vet for analysis...there are several types of worms and there is not one single dewormer that kills all worms.  PANACUR will get the most worm types out of all the dewormers out there.  I would give it to her once a day for 5 days and then repeat dosing in 2-3 weeks.  Usually worms alone are not going to cause that severe of emaciation.  Something else may be going on.   In all reality, it would be best to get her to the vet NOW.
