Hi Cheryl.  If you are referring to the collar as a flea collar, this is probably the cause.  Hartz, BioSpot, Zodiac, basically every over the counter flea product or collar can have very traumatizing effects from things as simple as hairloss and rashes to symptoms as major as seizuring and death. If you have a flea collar on your cat, take it off immediately, as the hairloss may be a reaction to it.  If your cat has fleas use Frontline.  You can get it from your veterinarian.  It's the only proven safe product out there.
