Question
Our 9 year old irish setter started over the past 2 days, acting very lethargic and she has a horrible time of getting up. Just last week she was  a very energetic dog bouncing and running all over the place, now we have a hard time over the past 2 days trying to get her motivated to move at all. She struggles to get up and struggles to lay back down. Could it be possible that she has had a stroke??

Answer
Hello!

It is impossible to know what the problem of your dog is without an examination. Since she is older, he might have a metabolic disease, so a blood test to check the status of the kidneys, liver, etc. is essential. Another problem that she might be having is spondylosis which is a degenerative, noninflammatory condition of the vertebral column characterised by the production of osteophytes along the vertebral endplates, and this may be causing a lot of pain while he is moving and trying to get up and down. To be able to determine this, x-rays must be taken.

So I would advise a trip to your veterinarian, since all these problems may lead to others if left untreated.

Kind Regards,
