Lyme Disease in 5 yr Yellow Lab

Question
Our lab, Nala, has tested + for Lymes even though she has been vaccinated for it since she was 6 months old.  Every year, about 2 months before she gets her vaccinations, she shows some of the signs of Lyme's.  This year, she has a problem with her left eye that we have been treating for two weeks now with an Atropine drop once a day and Gentamicin and Prednisone drops every two hours.  After the first week she showed an improvement, but this week it seems to be getting worse again.  Her third eyelid is protruding about 1/4 inch more than usual and her pupil is sluggish.  We treated her before with Doxycycline and were wondering if this would work this time?  It worked wonders almost immediately before for the stiff and painful joints.

Answer
Hello!

Doxycycline is the antibiotic used to supress the disease, but it should not be used without any certain need. So I would definitely advise you to check with your own veterinarian, because he has been examining your dog for this disease. A lab test may be needed to determine whether you need to use doxycycline again or not.
