Question
I am thinking about becoming a veternian when i get older and at the moment i am writing a research paper about my decision.  I was wondering if you could tell me some advantages and disadvantages of being a vet.  Do you enjoy it? Have you ever had any doubts about becoming a vet?  What do you like most? What do you like least?  How long did it take you to become a vet? Also can you include any interesting facts.  I would really love to learn about what you do.  Thank you

Answer
First step is getting good grades in school, volunteering at the Humane Society or a Vet's office to get experience, and being prepared to go to college for 8 years.

I do enjoy what I do and I always wanted to be a vet since I was a little girl.  No regrets.

It is stressful as you deal with a lot of sick animals, emergencies and do have to put pets to sleep.   But you do have a lot of rewarding experiences seeing the animals get well and taking care of puppies and kittens.

There are only 27 vet schools in the country so actually it is harder to get into vet school than human MD school!  And on the other hand, the pay is not nearly as much as an MD would make but it is a very rewarding career (oh, and less lawsuits).

visit www.avma.org   click on CARE FOR ANIMALS tab and then on that page click SITE INDEX...there is an entire section on veterinarians which will be of help to you in your decision
