My best friend Rumpus

Question
My 8 month old Springer Spaniel, Rumpus, ate half a bag of candy blasted chocolate chip cookies.  I don't know for sure how many but at least half of a 14 ounce bag. I always tell my children not to feed him but they left the bag behind when they went out to play and Rumpus had his first taste of "candy blasts chips ahoy cookies".  I am terrified the worst is going to happen.  He does not seem ill and this event happened 4 hours ago.  Rumpus is running around the house and is very playful and still searching for more scraps to pick up off the floor.  Can you please tell me what I need to do to ensure he will not die from eating all those cookies?  What should I be watching for? I gave him a big bowl of water and he ran up and down the hallway fetching his pheasant and he does not seem to even have an upset stomach. Also, how long should I keep and extra close eye on him.  Please help.

Answer
HI Lori,
Sorry this is so late but I just got it-server problem I guess. That amount of cookies and chocolate are inhaled everyday by dogs just like yours all over the world!

He might get some diarrhea but that is about the worst of it. It's when they eat a whole bar of dark chocolate or cocoa that is serious.

Also please note that RAISINS, grapes, and onions are FATAL to dogs, or can be. Just one SMALL box of raisins can be a real problem- so with small kids make sure they understand how that can kill Rumpus and not leave those around.

You can relax about the eagle eye watch but like I said, he could have some diarrhea for a day or so.
