Question
My Dalmatian (8 months, 22 kg) was neutered this morning and the vet gave us Naproxen sodium 550mg for the pain. I am worried that it may be toxic for my dog, more now that he's in such a delicate state. Should I give him the pill? Or should I look for another options?

Answer
Naproxen is a common NSAID that is given to dogs for post surgical pain. It is better that you keep him pain free at this time.

The vet wouldn't have given you a drug that is toxic in the prescribed dosage. ANY drug given in the wrong amounts are toxic!

Having been neutered doesn't not make him in a delicate state but it does make him open to pain. Once they get in pain it's harder to control it so give the medication AS your vet prescribed it and your dog will heal much faster.

I admire you for getting him neutered and being a great pet owner!
