my cats dandrift

my cat seems to have dandriff. (not sure how to spell it).  he itches really bad around the neck and he just cant get enough rubbing!  i've been shampooing him with head and sholders and it helps him.  is this bad for him?

When cats are rubbing, especially around the neck, they have allergies. Often this is due to fleas, but it could also be due to ear mites or other allergens.  You need to take the cat to a vet for a proper examination and diagnosis.

Shampoos help somewhat, but the skin itches and the allergy will not resolve with shampoo alone.  Usually a steroid shot is required to stop the skin from itching from allergies. If there are fleas around, then a good flea treatment like Advantage will help.
