Question
I have a puppy that's 6 month's old, names Neo. I also have his mom and dad. Mom's a dalmation and Dad's a english bulldog/pitbull mix. It was mom and dad first litter of 10 one died. We kept one and didn't bother to get his shots. I know, shame on me, I'm regreting it now. They were born on Christmas.....Two day's ago I call the vet with his problem. I told her he started vomiting and pooping dark liquid, almost looks like blood with the smell of death. She told me it would cost about 1000.00 dollars to save him, which I don't have. That was 2-3 day's ago. Neo's still hanging in there, still wags his tail, drinks a little water but still won't eat. He walks around a couple of times a day,but mostly lays around. I don't want him to die. Is there any home remedies I could give him to make him start eating. He was God's Christmas gift to us and again shame on me for not getting his shots. We so love him dearly. Please help me, please.  Linda

Answer
Yes, shame on you because he most likely have Parvovirus, which is totally preventable with proper vaccinations.  And it is very likely that he has intestinal parasites on top of it.  Treatment of parvo involves supportive care with fluids, antibiotics and medication to control symptoms.   If you want to save him, then you should take him to the vet. The vet can at least prescribe an antibiotic such as Flagyl for the bloody diarrhea and maybe show you how to give SQ fluids, which is a minimal cost, to keep him hydrated.  You can also syringe him pedialyte and meat baby food.  And if he makes it through this, make sure to get him the proper veterinary care (and vaccinations) that he deserves.

The one supplement that I know would help him is TRANSFER FACTOR...ANIMAL STRESS PACKS.  This can be dissolved in water and syringed into his mouth to boost up his immune system to get his body to fight off the virus.   www.transferfactor.com    www.4tf-pets.com/testimonials.htm
