Question - Last year they removed my Cockers Spaniel's larinx. After the surgery the surgeon told me she could not be exposed to a temperature higher than 75 degrees because she could die of a heat stroke. He explainde that without the larinx she would not be able to pant and cool down. There is another hurricaine coming to Florida I an really worried. Last week I was able to keep her cool with ice but I only loss the electricity for a night. Please let me know what you think? I have been unable to get a hold of her surgeon even though I called multiple times.
Please let me know what you think
Regards
Lucie
AnswerI went to the Veterinary Information Network (VIN) to check and see if there is a valid report of the effect of environmental temprature on laryngeal surgery. There is nothing in there except that immediately post-operatively, dogs that collapse their airway work harder to breathe and that increases their body temperature.
