Cat - hair loss on ears

Question
Got a kitten about a year ago from a shelter.  Kitten was diagnosed with ringworm on first vet visit and have been fighting that ever since (baths, pills [can't remember name but had to be taken with oil], and now on Neem oil).  First ringworm culture was negative after two weeks, but a few days later vet called back and said there was a mistake and it was actually positive.  Back on routine with pills and baths.  Next ringworm test came back negative.  But then she began losing fur (as she did before) on the external side of her ear - round area, no oozing, no crusting, doesn't seem to be too itchy.  Back on routine with baths and neem oil.  Ear fur appeared to be growing back.  Next ringworm test came back dematophyte negative.  Yet now both ears are losing fur in a circular area.  Poor thing has been confined to one room (kitchen with linoleum) most of her life - easier to vacuum and clean with bleach solution.  At a loss - is this ringworm (although tests appear to be negative), there doesn't seem to be fur loss anywhere else.  She is a bit itchy around the neck, but no evidence of fleas and she has been on program since her first vet visit.  A year is an awful long time - I am sure Frisco (who is exceptionally smart and friendly) would rather be spending time with her "pride."  Any suggestions?

Answer
I always shave the cats with ringworm so that we can treat topically (with miconazole or clotrimazole) as well as systemically.  There is an oral drug called Itraconazole (Sporanox) that works well to rid a cat of ringworm. It should be given for 30 days.  Cleaning up all of the hairs that the cat drops is essential because the ringworm spores are on the shedding hairs.
