Question
ROXIE IS A 4 YR OLD SPAYED YELLOW LAB WHO WAS TREATED 4 WKS AGO WITH CLAVAMOXX FOR AN APPARENT BLADDER INFECTION. BEDWETTING STOPPED BUT RETURNED, AND HER B.U.N. WENT FROM 81 TO 90 AND CREAT FROM  3.4 TO 3.8 AFTER 48 HRS OF I.V. FLUIDS. SHE IS ON DOXYCYCLINE AND OUR VET IS RECOMMENDING AN IMMEDIATE KIDNEY BX. I WANT TO WAIT OUT THE COURSE OF DOXY. WOULD I BE INDANGERING HER BY WAITING?

Answer
Hi Betty.  Since your dog's creatinine and BUN levels have gone up sufficiently within the past 48 hours while on fluids, it truly may be dangerous to wait for the kidney bx.  I would definitely go with your veterinarian's suggestion.
Please let me know how Roxie does and give her tons of kisses for me,
Hilary
