Canine Dewclaw

Question
Hello,
I have a 3 yr. old lab who loves to chase a ball 24/7. She used
to wimper and limp for a few minutes every once in a while
during her ball chasing games, but whenever we would try to
check her foot, she wouldn't let us. In a few minutes she would
be alright. Lately she had been licking her left front dewclaw
incesstantly. After another cry and wimper episode I finally got
her to sit still and her dewclaw is split. It looks like she has a
small claw growing right underneath a large one and they bleed
when she hits them while running. Is there anything that can be
done to help it heal or is removal the only answer.

Answer
I am very sorry but I don't know a whole lot about medical questions...I did try to look it up for you using google search but I had no luck..I am very sorry..I would think you would have to take her to the vet if it continues to do what it is...you wouldn't want it to get infected...again I am so sorry that I couldn't give you more information.
