Question
My male calico cat fathered a litter of kittens the mother is not a calico. I was told that this is impossible. Is it true.

Answer
Yes it's true. However, in some breeds there are tortoiseshell cats that look like calicoes but are not, so your cat might be a tortoiseshell.

Genetically all ca;icos are female because it is a sex-linked gene. A true calico has white on them and tortoiseshell cats do not.

So it's not possible that your male is a calico. However, the mother doesn't have to be a calico to give birth to calico cats. She has the gene in her somewhere if she had calico kittens. If they are normal colors then she doesn't have a calico gene.

Your cat is either a female or a tortoiseshell.
