pug wont urinate in the cold

Question
I have a three and a half year old pug who has a very difficult time urinating when it get's below 20 degrees. He has had this problem every winter but this year seems exceptionally bad. He will hold it for as long as 24 hours at a time. I will take him out multiple times a day and reward him when he goes but when he does not want to go he will not go! Will he end up giving himself an infection? What can I do?

Answer
There are a lot of dogs that go through this. The only thing you can do is just take him out, keep him as warm as you can and let him go when he goes. He can't hold it past when he can hold it, no matter what.

If this has been going on for three years and he hasn't gotten an infection then he probably won't.

You might want to ask some of your friends that have dogs what they do there. Where I live it doesn't get below zero but it gets close to it.

My dog just goes and comes back inside right away.
So ask around.
