my dogs nasty habit

Question
Dear Dr. Fry,
My 15 yeear old, but still healthy and active terrier/poodle/cocker/? mix breed has developed the nasty habit of raiding the cat box for snacks.  I try to keep her box super clean, so he eats his own.  Why is he doing this?  How can I break the habit?

Thank you very much,
Karen

Answer
I would try a covered litter box in a corner and turn the box so the opening is facing the wall and only enough space for the cat to get in.  Or try a top-hole litter box.

You could also try to feed the cat FORBID so that when the dog does go to eat the stool it will taste bitter.

Many dogs do this because it is there and they feel the need to clean it up.  However, there could be an underlying deficiency or medical problem causing the behavior.
