puncture in dogs chest

Question
our dog got out last night and came back with a large puncture wound in his chest. we live in a rural area and think it looks like the result of a confrontation with a large hog. we dont have money to take him to the vet. we're keeping it clean. he seems to be in pain. he walks with a limp.is there anything else we can do?

Answer
If there is damage, it will only get worse without treatment.  Keeping it clean and resting the dog may help, but if there is a puncture in the chest wall, the lung may collapse. And there may be an infection that sets up in the damaged tissue. If there is limping, there may be muscle, tendon, or nerve tissue damage.
