could my 5 yr old beagle have a brain disease from chronic and poorly treated otitis media infections

Question
my beagle has in the past two weeks developed a tremor when awake, muscle weakness (his legs splay when he tries to stand in place, consequently he is pacing a lot), slowness when eating (he used to gobble everything), a worried look on his face, and bumping into things.  he can no longer get up onto the furniture and i'm afraid he is going to need help getting off his sofa within a day or so.  i feel really bad because i haven't been very good about his ears but he hates getting the drops in.  he also has had epilepsy for the past year and phenobarb has worked perfectly for that.  he eats some raw foods and bil-jac. he is slightly overweight.  he is a red beagle and very sweet except over getting ear drops and food! Our vet thinks he probably has a tumor or a cns condition.  someone told me that the candida in his ear could spread to his brain.  can you advise me?

Answer
It is very rare for an ear disease to spread to the brain, but it is not out of the realm of possibility.  I would suspect if this dog is an epileptic and has had neurological problems, then it would most likely not involve the ear.  You will need to have the dog checked by your vet to be sure just what is going on here.
