prednisone use in 16 yr old

Mix beagle suffered apparent disc problem resulting in serious impairment of hind legs use.  Surprisingly he is repsonding and recovering.  He has bowel control but is showing some signs of bladder incontinence, but then was also fine through the night last night.  Side effect of prednisone?  He has two more days at 2 per, then 5 days at 1 each, and then one every other day.   Thoughts re impact of prednisone and bladder control?  Jim the Dog has surprised us by fighting back but I am conerned about the bladder control.  Thanks.  Teri

Bladder control in this case can be from either of the three issues, severe disc problem, age or the pred. Predisone will certainly make them drink more and urinate more- thus the already weak and old bladder is dealing with a lot. Give it a few days until after the last pred and you will know more what you are dealing with.

Just make sure you get him outside to wet one more time before bed.
