Epilepsy in Dog

Question
My Shih-tzu was diagnosed several years ago with epilepsy.  She was place on a medication (can't remember what it was) but it dehydrated her severly and we took her off of it withing two weeks.  She was having seizures, probably once a month (at least that is what we saw) and they reduced in frequency over the past couple of years.  She is now about 12 years old and I have noticed that she will frequently have spells where she will fall to the ground and then immediately get up.  Similar to seizures of the past, only they last a couple of seconds and not 15 minutes.  Any idea what we can expect over the next couple of years?  Will it get worse?, more frequent?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Greg!

Get your dog to see a doggy neurologist! No really! they are out there! :)

Epilespy can get worse, BUT you have to factor in if this is a tumor too.

I cannot tell you off hand what will happen in the future. Make sure she gets regular checkups every 6 months.

Hope this helps!
