QuestionMy cat is recovering from a nasty infection on his paw, and has been confined to a protective plastic cone for almost 2 months now. Over the past few days I have noticed that a rough patch was forming inside one of his ears, and it has progressed into what looks like a bit of scabbing or severe dryness, and the skin is very red. Is it possible that this is a reaction to the cone? We've been back and forth to the vet SEVERAL times over the past 2 months, and I'd like to save another costly visit if I could...any advice would be greatly appreciated!
AnswerHello Lindsay: yes, the plastic cone may be causing some irritation on your cats skin. You can clean the area with hydrogen peroxide and water, use a cotton ball. Then, apply some triple antibiotic ointment if the area is open. If the area is closed then get some invisible bandage liquid or spray. There is a great kind called EMT gel that can be found at most Pet stores.
Best of Luck!
