Do you think you can tell...

Question
Do you think you can tell me what's wrong with my hamster and what I
should do to help it? First of all, it was running nonstop for 2 days and
after that, he became really wobbly and light. His eyes are red and puffy
and also, his nails were a diseased color. Now, one of the dark nails have
returned to normal but there seems to be a spot right underneathe it. Like
it moved down. Please help me!

Answer
Hi there!  I know that a lot of people do not feel veterinary care is necessary for hamsters, but in cases of illnesses like this, your hamster really needs to see a veterinarian.  There could be a bacterial infection going on, or a vitamin deficiency that would need antibiotics or vitamin injections to clear up.  A hamster's life-span is only 1-3 years of age.  How old is your hamster?
Most vets will give you a "deal" on small pets like hamsters and sometimes even wave the visit fee...at least in my area they do.  I wish I could be of more help, but he definately needs medication to help him.
Please let me know how he does,
Hilary
