Infections in Female Dogs

Question
While I do know that it is possible for dogs to have vaginal infections, I was wondering how you could tell.  In many human women, there is usually an odor present.  I was wondering if that is the case with dogs because our dog smells like fish.

Answer
There are many reasons for this smell but yes, they can smell from infections but you might not see anything since they lick themselves clean, or try to.

She would normally have a discharge as well but again, she might be cleaning it up. It is highly unusual for a spayed dog to have a vaginal infection but one that isn't spayed can get them from uterine infections, being in heat etc. Spayed dogs are more likely to have a foreign body infection from a sticker etc. down there.

Their skin can also smell that way from long standing infections or skin conditions.

You need to get her to a vet as soon as you can.
