Eating grass

Question
My female pitbull just went out of heat about two weeks ago. Now she has not been eating well and seems to want to eat alot of grass went we take her out. My concern is what affects the grass as on her and why she feels the need to eat so much of it?  I usually do not let her eat it but if she eats to help herself naturally I don't want to prevent her from helping herself. Any advise will be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Kathy!I would not be concerned so much with the grass making her sick as the fact that she is not spayed and she could have a uterine infection (pyometra), which can be life threatening. The grass won't have any effect on her unless you treat it with chemicals...dogs usually will eat grass to reduce the acidity in their stomachs and make them vomit.

Your best bet and safest course of action is to take her to the vet for an examination.

I hope this is helpful and good luck!Nicole.D.
