pomeranian - allergy

Question
We have had a pomeranian for 3 years and decided to get another one as a playmate.  As soon as we brought her home my wife got sick - fever, swollen throught, itchy eyes, fatigue.  Is it possible to be allergic to one pomeranian and not another, or is the timing of getting sick just coincidence?

I would think it is a coincidence as right now the pollen count is horrendous.  I would recommend bathing both poms with a hypoallergenic, unscented dog shampoo.  Maybe the dog had cologne or was bathed in a scented shampoo that didn't agree with her.  Also, a hepa filter in the house would help.
