Question
I am sorry, but Vantressa Brown wasn't able to answer your question

A year ago, November, my 14 year old Keeshound had an infection in his teeth which I believe also affected his eye and brain. He had to have most of his teeth pulled. We had continuously asked our usual vet if he needed something done and he said no and then it got too late to do anything and a new vet pulled his teeth. Since then he has been keeping myself and my husband up. We let him out just before we go to bed and a couple of hours later he will want to go out. He seems to get hyper and pants very loudly then barks. We get up let him out for a few minutes, let him back in, go to bed and within a short period of time he is panting again and wandering all over. He seems to be real anxious. If we let him out, he just lies down and doesn't have to go to the bathroom. This happens 3 or 4 times a night. Is there something natural or OTC that we can give him to help him sleep so that we can sleep? We have had him back to the vet and the expensive medicine that he gave us (not sure of name) only made him more hyper. He has been tested for UTI and does not have one. He is hypothyroid and is on medicine for that.

Answer
Double check his thyroid level post-pill as too much thyroid supplement could also lead to this behavior you describe.

At 14 yrs old, he probably has some Cognitive Dysfunction (Alzheimer's in dogs) and would benefit from Prescription Diet B/D and ANIPRYL as well as supplementing with B complex vitamins, Vitamin E, Ester C and CHOLODIN.

You can try giving VALERIAN ROOT which may help calm him down.  I would give 1/2 of the labeled dose for a human adult.
